Buffer Ratio Quality Comes of Age in the Streaming Video Space

Video streaming infrastructure in most countries has vastly improved in the past 12 months. The first 6 months of 2024 saw a large global increase in quality of experience, especially in Video-on-Demand (VOD) services, compared to the same period last year.

The first half of 2024 saw major improvements in global quality of service and quality of experience in video streaming metrics such as buffer ratio and bitrate. A 54% global improvement in VOD Buffer Ratio quality is a clear signal that the industry as a whole is maturing.

Regions such as Asia, the Pacific and the US achieved significant milestones in playtime per user, bitrate quality and buffer ratio, when compared to the 1st half of 2023.

These KPIs show that video streaming infrastructure in most countries has vastly improved in the past 12 months.  Telcos, broadcasters and OTTs are investing heavily, thus improving the overall quality of the streaming video landscape. With new players entering the market regularly, it’s becoming much more competitive.
